The object is 2.7 centimetres tall and carved from red jasper, a stone hard enough to resist all but the most deliberate incision. Neo-Assyrian seal cutters working between the late ninth and seventh centuries BCE used hand-rotated drills tipped with corundum or flint to achieve the fine linear detail required for cultic imagery at this scale.
Cylinder seals were not decorative but administrative, rolled across wet clay to authorize transactions and mark property across the empire's territory from Nineveh to Nimrud. The original is held at @metmuseum in New York, where the engraved surface remains unrolled. MUGGMUSEET curatorial staff have preserved the impression in ceramic form, flattened by default. The work enters the collection.
