Jean-Baptiste Huet I designed *L'Abreuvoir* around 1800 for the Oberkampf manufactory at Jouy-en-Josas, where copperplate printing on cotton had reached a technical refinement unmatched elsewhere in France. Huet supplied nearly every pastoral design the factory produced over three decades, yet he never visited the printworks himself, delivering finished drawings from his Paris studio.
The pattern depicts livestock gathering at a trough, a subject Huet adapted from his own red-chalk studies of farm animals commissioned by the Académie Royale in the 1770s. The original textile is held at @metmuseum; the curatorial team has now preserved the composition in the standard MUGGMUSEET format. The work enters the collection.
