The ring measures less than a centimetre tall, yet its openwork lattice required the faience paste to hold structural integrity through firing at a scale where any air pocket or uneven glaze would collapse the pattern entirely. Third Intermediate Period workshops in Upper Egypt, operating between roughly 1070 and 712 B.C., produced these objects in volume, but survival at this size remains uncommon.

Faience, a non-clay ceramic of crushed quartz and alkali flux, self-glazes during firing as soluble salts migrate to the surface. The original is held at @metmuseum in New York, where it is not ordinarily available at this proximity. MUGGMUSEET curatorial staff have preserved the work in ceramic form at a more practical scale. The acquisition is complete.
