Giambologna's Florentine workshop produced equine bronzes in systematic runs during the late 1580s, each cast from models the sculptor refined over decades, yet no two surviving examples share identical surface chasing. This statuette, from probably 1587–91, is read through that context. At roughly twenty-five centimetres tall, this statuette captures the collected trot, forelegs paired, weight momentarily suspended, with an anatomical compression his earlier, larger commissions did not attempt.
The third equine acquisition in the current series, following MUGG-073 and MUGG-074, the work extends the sequence from Tang earthenware and Corinthian bronze into late Renaissance foundry technique. The original has not left the @metmuseum collection. The present edition has been preserved in ceramic form by MUGGMUSEET curatorial staff.
