Boeckmann executed the Frauenalb view in 1791 as a tondo nearly forty centimetres across, an unusually large format for a pen-and-ink architectural study and one that forced the monastery's sprawling Baroque complex into a circular discipline more common to painted miniatures. The convent itself would be secularized and partially demolished within a decade, making the drawing an inadvertent final record.
The gray-ink wash, applied in controlled gradations over precise pen work, builds atmospheric depth without colour, a method that trained a generation of German topographical draughtsmen in how to render stone and distance with a single pigment. The original is held at @metmuseum. The present work enters the MUGGMUSEET collection as the third Frauenalb acquisition, following MUGG-104 and MUGG-105, a concentration the curatorial team considers appropriate.
